The pictures above are from the April 19, 1996 - F3 tornado that came through
our area in Central Illinois. As it progressed to the East I took
8 pictures of the tornado and then backed up closer to the I-72 berm to
get away from the high winds off the tornado! The incline at the
right side of picture is the I-72 berm! We had quite a bit
of damage here in town. We did have one of our local storm spotters
hurt in a house where he went to help a Mother and her two young boys,
they huddled together under a stairwell in the basement and the frame of
the house was moved over by Wyckles road.. the roof was gone, the chimney
fell on Lonnie! (a very large section), and he was hospitalized for
a long time with injuries. No doubt in my mind that Lonnie had a
big part in saving the Mother and her two sons lives!

Scot England, WAND TV reporter met me to do the interview here at my house, also drove out to a couple of spotter positions on the West side of town and also by the Niantic overpass. Did storm good that day... right Scot! :-) These pictures are ones I cut out of the video that was shown on WAND TV at 5, 6, and 10 pm! May 12, 2000! |
